About Us

We are a Southern Baptist Church that was formed in 2005 by the merging of Twelfth Street Baptist and Murray Street Baptist churches. Both churches had been in existence for over 50 years but were struggling in different areas. Together we are stronger and have become one family. We are excited about what God is doing and are described as “A Fellowship of Love”.

We have been in our building on HWY 397 since October 31, 2010 and have already seen tremendous growth! New neighborhoods are being built all around us and we would love to meet all of our new neighbors!

Statement of Faith

We affirm the Holy Bible as the inspired, infallible Word of God and the basis for our beliefs. This Church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of the Baptist Faith and Message as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 2000. We voluntarily band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to lost mankind and to minister to all. The ordinances of the Church are believer’s Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

What We Believe About….

God

We believe there is one God, the God of the Bible, Jehovah. He is holy, all knowing, all powerful. God is eternally existing as God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit. The three are equal and one (The Trinity). He has created all things without the necessity of evolution and will judge all things and all people.

Jesus

Jesus Christ is everything the Bible says He is. He is the only Savior and the only sacrifice acceptable to God as payment for our sins. He was virgin born and lived a sinless life. He gave all the sacrifice necessary when He was crucified and died on Calvary’s cross. He was buried, rose from the grave, ascended to heaven, is alive today. He will soon return for His bride and seven years later will return to rule the world.

He is Creator, Redeemer, The Lamb of God, The Prince of Peace, God in flesh, Lord of Lords, King of Kings. Jesus Christ is the Final Judge of every man (as well as man’s only hope). He is the Way, the Truth, the Life, and the only way anyone can come to God the Father. Without Jesus all mankind is doomed and damned without hope.

Holy Spirit

We believe The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God who convicts the hearts of men of their sin, of their need for a savior, and of the reality that Jesus Christ is their only hope of being saved. The Holy Spirit draws men to Christ and urges them to repent of their sins and to call out to Jesus to be saved. When they call out to Jesus, He immerses them into Christ.

As the Spirit of Christ, He dwells in the heart of every person who is saved. He reveals His presence along with the fact that they are God’s child. He empowers Christian people to live the Christian life, obey God, and serve Him.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God’s Holy Word. It is without error and can be fully trusted to reveal the mind of God, the will of God, the love of God, the sin of man, God’s provision for man’s salvation, the past, and future. The Bible is the totally sufficient guide to life.

God’s Word brings hope to the hopeless. It brings comfort to those in sorrow. It brings wisdom when we don’t know which way to turn. It is powerful and we should spend time each day in the Word of God.

The Church

The Church is the blood-bought bride and body of Christ which consists of all who are born-again believers. It is the Church’s task to carry on the work of Christ, to reveal God’s love as it flows through us, to share the Gospel message, to lead others to Christ, to teach God’s Word, and to worship and glorify God in everything we say and do.

Baptism

Baptism does not and cannot save you; only the blood of Jesus can do that. Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.

Marriage

All weddings/marriages performed by the Pastor or any staff member of East Ridge Baptist Church on church property or any other location shall meet the Biblical standards of Holy Matrimony uniting one natural-born man and one natural-born woman.

Human Life

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life (Psalms 139.)

Salvation: A Relationship With Christ

God’s Love

Does God love you? Or is God just watching you and waiting for you to break one of His commandments so He can whack you?

The answer is a definite…God loves you.

In the Bible, John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” God does love you. He loves everyone in the world. Everyone will die one day and will either enjoy everlasting life with God in heaven or they will “perish” and spend forever separated from God in hell.

In order for anyone to have everlasting life, God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die on a cross to pay the penalty for our sins so we won’t have to. God will count Jesus’ death as payment in full if we will repent and receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.

In Romans 5:8 it says, “But God, commendeth (proved and revealed) His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Can you imagine watching your only son being beaten, scourged, mocked, cursed, spit on, and nailed to a cross? That is how much God loves you. You have a choice. You can receive God’s love by receiving His Son as your Savior or you can refuse it. But there is a warning: if you refuse God’s love and His Son here in this life and you will be separated from them forever.

Do you believe what the Bible says about Jesus dying in your place? Do you believe that He rose from the grave and is alive and able to save you right now? If you believe these things, then call out to Jesus and ask Him to save you. Ask Him to come into your heart as your personal Savior and into your life as your Lord. When you do, you will experience God’s ultimate love. He does love you.

Route to Heaven

Does it really matter what you believe, as long as you are sincere? Does it really matter as long as you try to live a good life? Does it really matter as long as you go to church somewhere? Does it really matter if you are a Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu, etc., as long as you are religious?

It has often been said, “We are all trying to get to the same place, just taking different ways”. Is one way as good as another? Don’t all religions ultimately lead to heaven? How important is Jesus Christ?

All of these questions are answered by one verse in the Bible. John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” By reading the verses preceding this verse, we can see that Jesus was talking about the “way” to heaven. He did not say He was ONE of the ways, nor ONE of the truths or PART of the truth or ONE of the sources of life. He made it plain that no one can come to God, His Father, unless they come through Jesus.

Think about this: If Jesus did not tell the truth, He is not God because the Bible says “It is impossible for God to lie”. Also, if Jesus lied about this, He would be a liar and a sinner and could not be our Savior. Jesus told the truth.

Do you plan to go to heaven? How do you expect to get there? THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY: THROUGH JESUS!

It’s As Easy As ABC!

Admit

When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He did all that was necessary to provide forgiveness and salvation for everyone. However, there are certain things you need to do to experience the forgiveness and receive salvation.

ADMIT that you are a sinner and need forgiveness and salvation.

The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

DO YOU ADMIT THAT IS TRUE FOR YOU?

Believe

BELIEVE the truth that even though you are a sinner, God loves you enough to send His only Son, Jesus, to pay for your sins by dying in your place on Calvary’s cross. God is willing to forgive you because Jesus took all of your punishment when He sacrificed Himself to save you.

The Bible says in John 3:16, “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

In Romans 5:8 it says, “God proved His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT IS TRUE FOR YOU?

Call

If you truly believe that this is true for you, then you need to do something with that belief. More than believing the truth, believe in the Person who is able to save you. That Person is the Lord Jesus Himself. If you believe He is the only one who can save you and you can trust Him to do it, CALL on Him to do it.

The Bible says in Romans 10:13, “Whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

DO YOU TRUST JESUS ENOUGH TO CALL ON HIM TO SAVE YOU AND BE YOUR SAVIOR?

Confess

Only a living Savior can save someone. Jesus died on the cross but God raised Him from the dead. He can save anyone who calls on Him to save him today because He is alive listening for sinners to call out to Him to save them. When He does, He becomes their Savior and Lord (Master or boss of their lives). When that happens, the first thing our living Savior and Lord tells us to do is to tell others about Him and what He has done for us. CONFESS the reality of what He has done for you and what He has become for you, (Your Savior and Lord).

The Bible says in Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in you heart that god has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

IF YOU HAVE CALLED ON THE LIVING LORD JESUS TO SAVE YOU AND ACKNOWLEDGE HIM TO BE THE LORD OF YOUR LIFE FROM NOW ON, WILL YOU CONFESS IT?

The Next Step

If you believe all you have read, then be willing to take the next step. Admit to God that you are a sinner, Believe that He is that Son of God, Call on His name to save you, and Confess that He is the Lord of your life.

After you do this, let our pastor know! Let everyone know! We want to rejoice with you and your new life! Get plugged into a local church and begin to grow in Christ. We know of a good church that would be excited to welcome you in with loving arms!

Now you need to be baptized! Why? Christ tell us to! Baptism is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. Baptism cannot save you; it is showing others that you have new life, that Christ has washed you clean from your sins, and you are rising up to walk in a new life!

How To Become a Member of East Ridge Baptist Church

Baptism

One way to join East Ridge is through baptism. Baptism is an act of obedience following salvation. Once you have accepted Christ into your heart and commit to living for Him, the Bible tells us to be baptized. Baptism cannot save us; it is a public act that symbolizes our dying to ourselves and being born again to live for Him.

Letter From Previous Church

If you have already accepted Christ into your heart, followed it by being baptized, and were a member of another church with the same beliefs as ours, you can join East Ridge by moving your membership from your old church to East Ridge! We will send a letter to your old church to inform them of your membership being moved.

Statement of Faith

If your old church is no longer in existence or if you accepted Christ and were baptized but never joined a church, you can join East Ridge by Statement of Faith. This is simply you stating the fact that you believe Christ is the Son of God, and that you have asked Him to forgive you of your sins, and to live in your heart. You are stating that you are living for Him and that He is the Lord of your life. We trust that you are being honest about your relationship with Christ.
